Parents' Academy
NEW! Slideshow (2009-2010 Workshop Series)
Parents are our partners in education, and the Brockton Public Schools strives to give parents the tools they need to assist their children as they learn and grow. For the second year, the School Registration and Parent Registration Center is offering an exciting program, the Parents' Academy, which provides parents with free informational workshops.
Parents' Academy was launched in 2006 by then Superintendent of Schools Basan Nembirkow with input from community agencies and members of his Community Advisory Board. The program is supported by the Mayor and city agencies, is designed and staffed by educators, and implemented with assistance from parent liaisons, Community Schools, health and wellness personnel and school staff.
The program is valued by parents, children, educators and community members, whose annual input helps shape the topics of the program. The workshop series is designed to help parents, school staff and day care professionals become full partners in the education of all students. Topics include academic support, effective discipline, health and nutrition and safety issues. Attendees are given resource materials and a certificate of attendance at each workshop. After attending four or more workshops, participants are invited to an end-of-year recognition ceremony where they are honored as being part of our Parent Leadership Team.
Research shows that the more parents are involved, the better their children do in school, and we are always working toward academic success for all children.
All Parents' Academy workshops are facilitated by experienced professionals and include curriculum and information tailored to the given topic. The 90-minute workshops are held throughout the year at the Arnone Elementary School.
