The Brockton Public Schools are committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment that is free from bullying and cyber bullying. The commitment is an integral part of our comprehensive efforts to promote learning, and to prevent and eliminate all forms of bullying and other harmful and disruptive behavior that can impede the learning process. The district will take specific steps to create a safe and, supportive environment for vulnerable populations in the school community. We will provide all students with the skills, knowledge, and strategies to identify, prevent, report, and respond to bullying, harassment, or retaliation.
The Brockton Public Schools Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan was developed by an established steering committee initially convened on June 29, 2010. This plan as required by M.G.L. c. 71, § 37O, was developed in consultation with teachers, school staff, professional support personnel, school volunteers, administrators, community representatives, local law enforcement agencies, students, parents, and guardians during a series of meetings held between June and November 2010. An overview presentation was made on October 5, 2010 outlining the components of the plan to the School Committee. The first official reading of the plan by School Committee took place on November 16, 2010 followed by a period of public comment prior to the final reading and adoption on December 7, 2010. The BPS Bullying Policy and Intervention Plans have been updated and approved by the School Committee in June, 2016. Links to the updated documents are shown below.
Reporting an Incident of Bullying
The Brockton Public Schools administration strongly encourages anyone with knowledge of a bullying/cyber-bullying incident to report it immediately.
Option 1: Direct report to school staff
- At the elementary school level, contact your school principal, assistant principal or adjustment counselor, teacher or staff member.
- At the middle school level, contact school principal, assistant or associate principal, school adjustment counselor, teacher or staff member.
- At Brockton High School or alternative schools, contact principal, associate principal, dean, assistant dean, school adjustment counselor, teacher or staff member.
Option 2: Written report to school staff
If a student or parent feels uncomfortable with Option 1, he/she can fill out the form below and submit it to the school office. This form is also available in the main office, the guidance office and the nurse's office of each Brockton Public School.
Option 3: Anonymous reporting
If a student or parent wishes to remain anonymous in sharing information about bullying or potential bullying scenarios, they can alert school staff anonymously by filling out the following online report.
Option 4: Tipsoft Anonymous Text-a-Tip
