Introduction

By using the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model for the best features of a Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Model, the Brockton High School Guidance Department has created a foundation for a School Counseling Program that is based on school and district goals.

Since the Spring of 2003, the Guidance Department has focused on the development and implementation of a comprehensive model. The initiatives of the Guidance Department have corresponded in a timely manner with the endorsement by the Department of Education of the Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.

The Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs emphasizes a set of standards in the following areas:

Program Foundation
Delivery System
Management System
Accountability

Brockton High School's goals of student achievement, the personalization of the educational experience and the fostering of a safe school atmosphere for all students, has been adopted and used as the department's guiding principles.
